Solstice and Being Busy

Today is the winter solstice and I hope you’re hibernating appropriately, not getting too stressed out over commercial holidays, and possibly prepping to a giant winter storm if you’re in Ontario or close by.

I have a monster story to write but it’s going to have to wait because I’m still in the middle of it and, as such, have a large number of items on my to-do list that need to be done yesterday.

The very quick version of the story is this: my undying passion for local ecological food systems is being put to the test: I’ve joined a local organization that is facing insolvency with the hopes to raise enough funds and find enough volunteers to keep the doors open. I can’t say much more than that because no press has been released but I’m stressed, I’m overjoyed, I feel like I’ve found not only a worthy cause, but one where my skills intersect perfectly with my passions and while there is a sense of dread that I might lose the opportunity to help, I’m also flooded with happiness in finding a cause where I can intentionally put my time and effort and love and energy in a way that will have real, tangible, meaningful results for my community. Whew. Big feels all around.

So no rest on the solstice for me this year, but I still plan on making a yule log and having a candlelit dinner tonight! I hope you have time and space to celebrate this long night (or long day if you’re in the southern hemisphere!) in ways that are meaningful and supportive for you and yours <3
